Adult and Community Education evening classes will resume at Rochdale City Learning Centre at the start of 2009. Enrolments for 10-week 'Beginners' and 'Next Steps' classes along with the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) will take place on Monday 12 January 2009.

Y10 students from Springhill High School returned from the North West regional finals of the 'F1 in Schools Challenge' having secured second place in the 14-16 age category. The event, held on 18 November 2008 at Manchester University, saw dozens of teams from across the region compete to test and race their F1 cars over a short course. Springhill's F1 car 'The R9Z' completed the 20 metre straight line event in an impressive 1.5 seconds.

During September 2008, the CLC met with Agapao International to discuss how they could support the locally based charity. Following the meeting the CLC agreed to lend Reddy, a volunteer who has media training and experience, the equipment needed to capture the images on his 3 week trip to Uganda and Kenya in October.

St Edwards Primary School Y6 pupils had previously visited the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester to look at Victorian art. On their visit they had taken eight CLC Digital Cameras and taken over 300 pictures. The whole year group (aprox 45 children) attended the City Learning Centre on Monday 10th November to work with the images they collected to create a 'Comic Life' project of their visit.

Year 4 pupils from Our Lady and St. Paul's RC Primary School recently took part in a CLC Radio News Day. The class had undertaken some planning at school and each group had produced a series of 'school news' topics including interviews with staff and fellow pupils.
On arrival at the City Learning Centre the groups were split so that each topic was represented by one member of the news group. The children then learnt how to use GarageBand to produce music, sound effects & voice recording; looking at changing volume levels to create a multi-track piece.

Fifteen Y10 students from Balderstone Technology College, currently studying GCSE Photography, spent the day at Middleton CLC recently undertaking an introduction to Photoshop. The aim of the day was to give students hands-on experience with an industry standard image manipulation software which would assist them in the production of their portfolio work.

Norden Primary School Y6 pupils came to Middleton CLC with a play they had written on "The Last Labour of Hercules" which had been produced as part of their study of Ancient Greece.

Thursday 20 November saw over sixty Y9 students from Falinge Park and Wardle High Schools take part in a Creative and Media Diploma Taster Day at the Unique Enterprise Centre in Rochdale. The aim of the day was to give the students a taste of the kind of work the diploma will involve and to give them the opportunity to speak to teachers and employers about what the diploma can offer and the pathways it leads to.

Year 5 pupils from Littleborough Primary School spent the day at Rochdale CLC investigating the use of CAMS as part of a project looking at the design and manufacture of 'Moving Toys'.

Climate Connections - Building A Global Game Plan
Students and staff from a number of Rochdale schools have been taking the opportunity to hone their programming skills in advance of the First Lego League Regional finals being held at Middleton CLC on Friday 12 December.
