The Regional Training Centre programme helps teachers bring learning to life with digital technology. A nationwide network of Apple-approved Regional Training Centres (RTC) coach primary and secondary teachers in the use of Apple’s award-winning software packages giving them the know-how to enliven school lessons with images, video and sound.

Year 5 pupils from St. Peter's RC Primary School, Middleton spent the day at the CLC exploring the use of Comic Life to support the history and literacy work the group had been undertaking on Tudor Life.

You are invited to submit a film made by pupils for screening within the 2009 Greater Manchester Schools Film Festival. The screenings will take place at the Odeon Cinema in the Printworks, Manchester on Sunday 21 June 2009
The Film Festival 2009 will include prizes awarded in the following categories:
Best Primary Film
Best Secondary Fiction Film
Best Secondary Factual Film (KS3 only)
Entries must meet the following criteria:
Films to be no more than five minutes in length (there is no minimum length).

Middleton and Rochdale City Learning Centre’s Diploma Specialist Learning comprises the British Computer Society’s Digital Creator Award and OCR’s iMedia qualification. Both industry-recognised awards are structured to support students who want to make the most of digital media devices and computers.

The exciting and involving content comprises eight units. Five of them over the creative aspects of digital media while the remaining three deal with sharing work. Each unit equates to 12 learning hours.

New for spring 2009 the CLC is offering a project designed to challenge and stimulate KS3 boys who would normally be satisfied working at level 3 in English to raise their performance to level 5.
'Going for Goal' is aimed at a target group of approximately 16-20 boys who will spend a full day at the City Learning Centre producing an audio broadcast/commentary to accompany a two minute game created by them using FIFA 2009.

New for 2009 this full-day scenario-based activity allows students to become detectives and determine who perpetrated a crime (different scenarios and techniques depending on curriculum area, key stage and class size).
Students will try to solve crimes by utilising various techniques including blood typing, forensic anthropology, fingerprint analysis, impression analysis for tyres and shoes, hair analysis, blood spatter, and DNA evidence.

Pupils from Meanwood Primary School, Rochdale have been crowned First Lego League champions 2008. The regional event, which attracted teams from across Rochdale, was organised by Middleton and Rochdale City Learning Centres and was held at Middleton CLC on Friday 12 December 2008.

Christmas has arrived early for a group of students at Springhill High School with help from the City Learning Centres. A class set of thirty Asus Eee PC (pictured) have been purchased by the CLCs and will shortly be made available to the school.
The CLCs support for the project, led by Springhill deputy headteacher Mr Brendan Hesketh, is looking to utilise the ultra mobile devices to extend independent learning opportuntities with borderline GCSE grade C/D students in English and Maths in order to help meet National Floor Targets of 30% 5 A*-C.

The end of November saw the departure of Syed Rizvi (Riz), the CLCs IT Network Consultant, after five years working for the City Learning Centres. As well as leading the CLCs team of technical support staff, Riz played a major role in the development of the CLC and Secondary Schools Wide Area Network, and developed a crucial role in supporting school IT support colleagues. Earlier this year Riz gained the highly regarded CCIE qualification and his personal qualities and technical ability will no dobt make him a sure-fire success in the commerical sector.
